Ching Kung is the Vilas Professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics, emeritus, at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He has drawn and painted for more than 40 years, and his paintings have been exhibited at several local venues and in private collections.
Ching’s work has won several awards, including the 2012 Ada Biddick Award and 2014 Joseph E. Burk Memorial Award of the Wisconsin Regional Art Program’s Annual State Art Exhibit. One painting was selected and exhibited for the 2013 Museum of Wisconsin Art Members’ Show, and another was a selected entry for the Northern National Art Competition at the Nicolet Art Gallery in 2013.
Ching has also exhibited his work with the poems by Donna Carnes and Blair Mathews at the Pyle Center at UW–Madison in 2015 and 2016. Proceeds from the sale of those paintings went to the James F. Crow Institute for the Study of Evolution and the James F. Crow Professorship, administered through the Department of Genetics, UW–Madison.
