Princeton offers robust shopping with a cluster of unique shops, comfortable restaurants, and intriguing boutiques. Saunter into Twister and you’re instantly beguiled by the fresh scent of the store’s coffee bar. Grab a cup of coffee, cappuccino, or Earl Grey tea and start exploring.
Years ago, the building was home to the Emerald Lion coffee shop. Nineteen years later, there are still top brews offered, except now in a clean, contemporary retail setting. When current owners Dennis and Kristin Galatowitsch were in the process of developing their store (while working full-time elsewhere), friends Michael Tebo and Maura Koutoujian would often tease them about the whirlwind of activity they stirred up wherever they went. “You are like Tasmanian devils!” And, just like that, the store’s name was born.
The eclectic variety of products is both welcoming and captivating. At the back of the store are high-end kitchen tools, inventive gadgets, and other home goods to explore. Whether you need bamboo utensils, spice grinders, herb keepers, or pizza stones, you’ll find a lot of options. There are products you won’t see elsewhere in the area that will replace basic equipment with upgraded versions.
Dennis shares that many of the innovative products in the store are tried and tested in his own kitchen. Some of his favorites include:
• The iGenietti Watermelon Corer and Slicer, which eliminates waste and mess while preparing a favorite summer fruit.
• Joseph Joseph’s garlic press, a game changer in that it expresses a great amount of garlic with the least amount of effort by using a helix design. And it’s easy to clean without any special tools.
• A Butter Button, a must-have during sweet corn season. It’s a great way to dispense butter in just the right amount.
• Epicurean cutting boards. Second to none, they’re made of pressed wood fiber, incredibly durable, dishwasher safe, restaurant grade, thin and light, Wisconsin produced, and come in several sizes and novelty shapes.
Along one side of the store, you’ll discover jewelry, scarves, American-made wool socks, and other fashion accessories. On the other side, there are 100 different wines to choose from along with a myriad of wine accoutrements. Those that love beer will be thrilled to find open stock microbrews made exclusively in Wisconsin. Can’t make up your mind? Create a six-pack sampler of several microbrews. Toward the front of the store, children and parents will swoon over the excellent games and activities for home and travel.
Guests will be pleasantly surprised by Twister’s well-stocked shelves, quality items, and personal service provided by the owners. Dennis and Kristin are astute at choosing relevant merchandise that meets customers’ needs, and they annually hand pick their inventory to meet changing demands.
